“Keep” by Christiana Danielle Synopsis 

«Keep» is a reflective and empowering song about reclaiming one’s self-worth after giving love freely. It acknowledges the beauty of past relationships—the love shared, the memories made—without regret or resentment. The writer affirms that the love they gave belongs to the other person to keep, signifying a sense of closure and acceptance.

However, this song also marks a turning point. The writer recognizes the need to value themselves just as much as they have valued others. They shift from freely giving their love away without boundaries to choosing themselves, emphasizing self-respect and emotional growth. The lines “Don’t see it as taking, I’m giving to me” capture this transformation—self-love is not selfish but necessary.

Ultimately, Keep is a declaration of freedom, self-love, and empowerment, reminding us that while love given is never wasted, we must also prioritize our own well-being.

Note from the writer: Growing and setting boundaries can be hard. The word boundary feels so  restrictive. Boundaries are neither limitations you put on others or self-imposed limitations. They are standards that which you govern yourself by out of LOVE. Love and discipline are what hold boundaries in place. It is one of the most radical acts of self-love you can ever perform. And you have so many opportunities to do so. Implementing boundaries with a person you love doesn’t always feel good, especially when you’ve never had to implement them before. But you get to live your own life and you get to choose what you allow in your beautiful garden.  Choose wisely and never forget who you are and what you deserve. Act in congruence with who you want to be and one day you will look in the mirror and be exactly who you’ve always wanted to be.
